Sticky, sweet and tasty, we just can’t stop eating this nutty snack once we begin. A great nibble for a cocktail party, these honey-glazed nuts are infused with the full flavor of Chinese five-spice to add a surprising twist to the nut mixture.
- 1 cup cooking oil for deep-frying
- 2 cups walnut halves
- 1 cup raw cashews
- 2 egg roll wrappers , cut into 1/2-inch squares
- 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsps honey
- 1/4 tsps Chinese five-spice
- 2 tsps toasted sesame seeds
Heat oil in wok to 300 degrees F over medium heat. Deep-fried walnuts and cashews and cook, turning frequently, until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Heat oil in wok to 350 degrees F over high heat. Deep-fry egg roll squares and cook, turning frequently, until golden brown, about 1 minute. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Combine brown sugar and butter in a saucepan. Cook, stirring over low heat until brown sugar melts. Add honey and five-spice; mix well. Remove saucepan from heat and add nuts, egg roll squares, and sesame seeds toss gently to coat.
Spread mixture in a foil-lined baking pan. Let stand until cool. Break into bite-size pieces before serving.
