During Mom’s last visit, she was in search of the Beater Blade+, that unique blade that replaces the flat beater from your stand mixer. I don’t remember where she had seen it advertised, but her persistence in finding it, led me to do a bit more investigation myself. I wondered what all the fuss was about. I’m somewhat of a traditionalist, and am wary of new gadgets that don’t necessarily provide me with any great savings of time, effort or money (and there are a lot of those out there!). Yet, my Mom’s keen interest in finding the Beater Blade+ led me to seek one out myself.
I have to admit, I’m a convert. Actually, I wonder why someone hadn’t thought of this earlier. And, I wondered if I would ever go back to my ‘regular’ mixer ‘blade.”
Why, you ask? Ever make some batter only to find out a bit of the flour at the bottom hasn’t been incorporated (you know, down by the dimple at the bottom of the bowl). Ever struggle with the awkward task of scraping the sides of the bowl during mixing? That’s what the Beater Blade+ is designed to do – and more. It reportedly can cut mixing time in half, and is ideal for folding whipped egg whites into batters for chiffons or soufflés – although, I have yet to use it for this purpose.
I do have to say, it works like magic. It eliminates the need for hand scraping the bowl during mixing, and the batter does not build up on the blade. Designed with a ‘wing system’ that acts like a wiper blade, it scrapes the sides and bottom of the bowl while mixing. Once mixing is complete, it can also serve as a spatula.
This handy blade eliminates all those little annoyances I deal with when making batter for cookies, cakes, muffins and more. Now, I don’t have to worry about digging deep into the bowl with a spatula to make sure every bit of flour is incorporated. And, because the blade wipes the bowl’s sides during use, there is little, if any, waste of batter left inside the bowl. (My kids are sad about not having any leftover batter to lick from the bowls).
The Beater Blade+ fits KitchenAid, Cuisinart, Viking, and Kenwood models – Be sure to order the correct size for your bowl capacity.
