We just can’t get enough of these creamy, sweet brownies. The recipe was one of the my favorites that my Aunt made when we were kids. I love when they are kept in the refrigerator and cooled before eating.
- 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Melt chocolate and butter on the stove in a pot placed over another with hot water. Once melted, let chocolate mixture cool slightly.
Beat sugar and eggs. Add cooled chocolate and beat.
Sift dry ingredients and stir into the chocolate mixture. Add nuts.
Pour into buttered 8” pan, and bake for 30-35 minutes.
Topping
- ¼ cup butter
- 2 cups confectioner’s sugar, sifted
- 1 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1 square unsweetened chocolate
- 1 tbsp butter
To make the topping, brown 1/4 cup butter over medium heat. Blend with 2 cups sifted confectioner’s sugar, 1 tbsp milk, and ½ tsp vanilla.
After that is cooled, spread topping on baked brownies and place in the fridge.
Meanwhile, melt 1 square of unsweetened chocolate and 1 tbsp butter. Cool a bit and spread on top of butter frosting.
